Information trouvée : John Passmore, the Australian philosopher who has died in Canberra aged 89, won a
worldwide reputation for his work in applied philosophy (of which some thought him
the father) and in the field of the history of ideas.John Arthur Passmore was born
at Manly, a small seaside resort near Sydney, on September 9 1914. In 1950 he became
the first professor of Philosophy at Otago University in New Zealand. Subsequently,
he moved to the Australian National University and there became, in 1959, professor
of Philosophy in the research school of Social Sciences. He retired 20 years later
