Information trouvée : Frank E. Vandiver, a military historian and former finalist for the National Book Award, died Friday at his home. He was 79. The elder Vandiver, who at various times led Texas A&M University, the University of North Texas and Rice University, had a special interest in the Civil War. He taught history at several universities, among them Washington University in St. Louis, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and Oxford. He was a professor and administrator at Rice for 24 years.
