has died aged 83... Frank Chapple was a leading Right-wing union leader at a time
when unions wielded huge power in the 1960s, 70s and early 80s. He was general secretary
of the EETPU from 1966 to 1984 before his retirement and subsequent appointment, under
the Conservatives, to the House of Lords in 1985 as a life peer taking the title Baron
Chapple, of Hoxton in Greater London... He was a member of the TUC general council
for 12 years to 1983 and served at every level of the electricians' union, from shop
steward to leader, since he joined in 1937... Francis (Frank) Joseph Chapple was born
in August 1921
