Note publique d'information : Cette thèse démontre d'abord la puissante aspiration des associations féministes à
l'intégration des femmes dans la cité. La conquête de l'égalité des droits politiques,
civils et économiques développement du salariat industriel. Les féministes constituent
alors un véritable mouvement social, progressiste, réformateur, qui ne se consacre
pas exclusivement aux droits des femmes. Acteur nouveau dans la société civile, il
intervient dans les débats sur les mœurs (prostitution notamment), et participe à
de vastes consensus, notamment en 1914-1918 et en 1939-1940. Le féminisme, en dépit
de sa dimension contestataire, n'échappe pas aux courants politiques et culturels
dominants. Les tendances hégémoniques sont représentatives des élites républicaines.
Les effets supposés et réels de l'égalité des sexes sur la définition de l'identité
féminine sont étudiés sous plusieurs angles. (participation des femmes à la défense
nationale, propagande pacifiste, réactions à la mode de la "garçonne", réponses aux
attaques antiféministes).
Note publique d'information : This thesis shaws first of all the powerfull drive of feminist groups to integrate
women in civic life from 1914 to 1940. To this end, feminists fight for equal political,
civil and economic rights and combat discrimination which rises sharply with the democratic
er and the development of industrial labour. They constitute an authentic social movement
(progressive and reformist) which is not devoted exclusively to women's rights. New
agent in culture, this movement engages in debate on social and moral issues (notably
prostitution) and participates in broad consensus politics (particulary during the
two wars). Despite its subversive dimension, feminism is located within dominant political
and cultural trends. Its hegemonic tendancies are representative of the republican
elite. The supposed and real effects of sexual equality on the definition of feminine
identity are examined from several angles (women's participation in national defense,
pacifist propaganda, reactions to the phenomena of the "garconne" (the flapper), responses
to antifeminist attacks).
