R. W. Brother The Reverend Doctor Joseph Fort Newton was Past Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Iowa, Past Grand Prelate of the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of the United States. He was the author of many books, both Masonic and religious, including his best-known works, The Builders, published in 1914 and The Men’s House in 1923. The Builders has been called "an outstanding classic in Masonic literature offering the early history of Freemasonry.
