May Kosba is a doctoral student in the Historical and Cultural Studies of Religion at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. She holds an MA in Islamic Studies. Centering Egypt as an imagined African geographical space in the Black and non-Black African novel, her project engages the African continent in ways that expand beyond the Atlantic, and investigates the role of religion and Arab nationalism in Black and non-Black African subject formation using the novel as a site of cultural and historical memory, and a vehicle for knowledge production.
